Chapter 275 Reporting to the Enforcement Team
Li Ang frowned slightly, suppressed his doubts, and quickened his pace. It seemed that his and Eve's disappearance had caused a greater commotion in the tower than he had anticipated.
Before long, he arrived at the enforcement team located in the Elementalist school area. As soon as he stepped into the enforcement team's gate, he heard a familiar, slightly tired voice coming from the side corridor. It was the voice of Eric, the captain of the eighth squad.
Li Ang turned his head and saw Eric walking out of the mission handover area looking travel-worn, his face showing his usual weariness.
Seemingly sensing something, Eric also turned around at that moment.
Eyes facing each other.
Eric's weariness vanished instantly, and his eyes widened as if he had witnessed something incredible.
"Li-Li Ang?!" Eric's voice trembled with extreme shock.
The next second, the usually reserved man rushed over and gave him a tight hug.
"You—you brat!" Eric slapped Li Ang hard on the back, his voice choked with emotion.
"Where have you been for the past month?"
A month? Li Ang's heart skipped a beat. It seemed that the flow of time in Avalon was not much different from that here.
Although being hugged by someone of the same sex made him instinctively a little embarrassed, the warmth that welled up in his heart at the same time diluted this discomfort. He could feel Eric's genuine surprise and concern.
"Captain Eric, I'm back," Li Ang said with a smile, gently patting Eric on the back.
Eric took a half step back, still gripping Leon's shoulders, and looked him up and down as if to confirm whether the person in front of him was an illusion: "Are you alright? Where is Lady Eve who disappeared with you? What happened to you two? That day, Ginny came running in a panic, saying incoherently that you were swallowed by a golden light. At first, we thought she had gone mad with fear—"
"Professor Eve is fine too, we just got back together," Li Ang explained. "A lot happened this time, it's a long story."
Eric breathed a long sigh of relief, a relieved smile spreading across his face: "It's good that you're alright, it's good that you're alright! Everyone has been so worried these past month, especially that girl Alyssa. Although she didn't say anything on the surface, she's had a long face ever since you disappeared—"
He paused, as if remembering something, and the joy on his face faded slightly, replaced by a complex expression of unspoken words.
"Captain?" Li Ang noticed the change in his expression.
"Ah—it's nothing." Eric shook his head, then patted Leon on the shoulder.
"It's good to be back. You're going to report to Deacon Celons, right? Go quickly, business is important. Once you're done, you have to tell us everything that's happened this past month. I'm going back now to tell Alyssa and the others the good news; those guys are going to be ecstatic!"
Li Ang nodded: "Okay, I'll definitely go see everyone after I finish my report and have some free time."
"It's a deal!" Eric patted Leon's shoulder forcefully, then turned and strode away.
After watching Eric leave, Li Ang turned and walked toward the area where Deacon Celonst's office was located. The law enforcement team members he occasionally encountered in the corridor all looked surprised when they saw him, but out of discipline, they did not go up to disturb him, but only cast curious and inquisitive glances at him.
Arriving at the familiar, heavy oak door, Li Ang stopped, straightened his sleeves, and then raised his hand to knock.
"Please come in." The distinctive, calm yet serious voice of Deacon Celons came from inside the door.
Li Ang pushed open the door and entered. The office was still impeccably clean, with documents neatly arranged in categories.
Deacon Celons was engrossed in reviewing something at his desk. Hearing the door open, he didn't even look up, simply asking habitually, "What is it? If it's a mission report—"
His words came to an abrupt halt as he caught a glimpse of a familiar figure out of the corner of his eye.
Deacon Celons looked up, and when he could clearly see the person's face, a crack appeared on his usually expressionless face, which was like an iceberg for ten thousand years. It was a complex expression that mixed astonishment, disbelief, and a hint of relief.
"Li Ang?" Celeste put down his quill and leaned forward slightly, as if to confirm whether he was seeing things.
"Deacon Celons, it's me." Leon stood in front of the desk, bowing slightly. "I'm back."
Celeste didn't speak immediately, but instead scrutinized Leon with his sharp eyes, as if trying to discern his experiences over the past month.
After a moment, he slowly leaned back in his chair, his serious expression turning into joy for the first time: "It's good that you're back."
He gestured to the chair opposite the desk: "Sit down, tell me slowly. What exactly happened during this time? How could you and Eve Chloe have disappeared at the same time? And judging from your mental energy fluctuations, you've already reached the level of a third-level wizard?"
Li Ang sat down as instructed, and without much small talk, got straight to the point. He first stated that he had indeed been promoted to level three, and then began to recount what had happened to him, starting from the day Ginny discovered the anomaly. Of course, he still chose to omit the parts about "the power of the torch" and the old summer.
After finishing his report, he focused on the key information he had gathered about the "End." As Li Ang narrated, Deacon Seronster's expression grew increasingly solemn. When he heard that the "End" might be a "harvesting" behavior targeting civilizations themselves, occurring every ten thousand years, and that the next cycle might end within twenty years, his fingers on the table unconsciously tightened.
"Periodic harvesting—swarm aliens—" Celeste repeated these keywords in a low voice, his brows furrowed with an unprecedented heaviness.
"The information you brought back is very important, and also—very terrible."
He looked up at Li Ang: "The Alliance's higher-ups are not entirely ignorant about the 'End.' There are indeed scattered records in ancient texts, and the astrological school has been conducting related observations and deductions. But such a clear time estimate, as well as clues about its form, is something we have never discovered before."
He paused, then said with unwavering resolve, "This matter must be reported to the Alliance's Supreme Council immediately. Li Ang, your discovery may buy us crucial time to respond."
Li Ang nodded; this was precisely the reason he had rushed over to report.
Celeste's tone shifted, becoming more complex: "Now that we've finished discussing business, let me tell you about things in the Tower. A lot has happened in the month you and Eve have been missing."
Li Ang sat up straight and said respectfully, "Then I'll trouble you to inform me, Steward."
