Chapter 12 Potions, Prophecy, and the Choice of Disciplines
Chapter 12 Potions, Prophecy, and the Choice of Disciplines
"You can learn more in popular subjects, but the requirements for students are not only high, but the competition is also fierce. You can learn less in less popular subjects, but the requirements for students are lower, and the competition is relatively less."
"The choice of discipline is very important."
"On your path of seeking truth as wizards, you will often need all sorts of resources for your practice. And the discipline you choose is a 'gold mine' that can help you acquire these resources."
Upon hearing this, Leo seemed to be deep in thought.
Although wizards in this world are a supernatural profession, they still have to work hard to earn magic stones in order to make a living.
Looking at it this way, he seems pretty much like an ordinary person.
Chris asked, puzzled, "Witch Sally, even a genius like Leo with such a fast meditation speed needs to earn magic stones? Doesn't the Tower of Dawn nurture them?"
Sally chuckled and shook her head, saying, "Even a genius with a level 6 mental power talent needs to earn magic stones."
"If a wizard's potential could be determined solely by their mental talent, then the wizarding world wouldn't need all sorts of research labs."
"The wizarding world is a constantly evolving one."
"Mental talent can only help you go further in the early stages. The later you go, the less important mental talent becomes. At that point, it's more about your exploration of knowledge and your pursuit of truth."
Sally's words were somewhat polite, and although Leo didn't believe them entirely, Chris, who was next to her, was beaming with excitement. He clenched his fists, his eyes sparkling, as if they were about to become the kind of wizards Sally was talking about, exploring the truth.
There's one thing Sally didn't mention.
Most wizards can't get past this "early stage".
While talent is certainly not everything, those without talent are eliminated long before they even get to the beginning.
Leo's gaze swept over the words on the white paper.
Potions, Magic Mechanics...
The blank paper contained a considerable number of subjects.
Each subject was also ranked according to its popularity.
The top-ranked discipline is Potions.
Chris's eyes darted around, and he asked, "Witch Sally, what subject are the wizards in the Tower of Dawn most proficient in?"
Sally pondered for a moment and said, "It should be prophecy."
At this point, Sally glanced at Leo for some reason.
"However, prophecy has a learning threshold, and it's easy to run into obstacles."
Upon hearing this, Chris looked at Potions, which was ranked first, and said, "Then I'll choose Potions."
"I...choose Potions...no, I'll stick with Prophecy," Jasmine said from the side.
Leo was still looking at the various subjects listed above.
He was pondering which subject had the most illustrated guides.
Finally, Leo set his sights on Potions at the very top.
Leo said, "Sally the Wizard, I'll also choose Potions."
"Huh?" Sally didn't react when Chris and Jasmine made their choices, but when it was Leo's turn, she gave a confused response.
Sally said, "Danville, you could actually choose a subject related to combat magic. As a Protoss, you have a natural combat instinct and physique; the magic research labs of combat wizards would probably welcome you."
Leo was skeptical upon hearing this.
Although Sally, as a teaching assistant, might be more familiar with the Tower of Dawn than he was, Leo still said, remembering Ryan's attitude and the repeated setbacks he had encountered when trying to find the Gathering Hall, "Witch Sally, I personally have some interest in potions."
The illustrated guide ensures Leo has a minimum level of potion-making ability, so there's no need to worry about him not being able to learn it.
Choosing a popular subject will make it easier to find a research lab in the future.
Sally said, "If you're interested, I'll help you choose this subject."
Sally did not try to stop her.
Sally only offers advice; Leo decides how to choose.
After Leo and the other two had chosen their subjects, Sally gave each of them a book.
Jasmine is a fundamental prophetic element.
Leo and Chris, on the other hand, studied basic potion-making.
Leo still remembered this book. He flipped through it and found it was the one he had borrowed from Nova's pile of books.
Sally said, "In terms of academics, my specialty is Potions. I'll continue to teach Danville and Chris."
Upon hearing this, Jasmine eagerly stretched out her hand and said, "Assistant Sally, I'll choose Potions too."
Sally waved her hand and said, "Calm down, Jasmine. Although neither Tesla nor I are good at divination, we won't let you study on your own."
"I will arrange for a skilled wizard from the 'Esmond Assembly' to guide you through the basics of divination."
After hearing this, Jasmine clutched her clothes with her little hands, still looking very worried.
Sally said gently, "And choosing a subject at the beginning doesn't mean you can only major in that subject later on."
"In terms of subjects, we divide the teaching into 14 days."
"We will only teach you for fourteen days, so that you can learn the basics of this subject."
"You are free to switch to another subject after fourteen days."
"Even if you switch to another subject, we will only teach you for fourteen days."
Hearing Sally say that, Jasmine felt relieved for the time being.
Just then, Leo asked, "Witch Sally, how shall we continue our in-depth study of this chosen subject in fourteen days?"
Sally said, "The subjects are related to the research lab. For the parts outside the basics, you'll need to study in other wizards' labs."
Chris asked, "Witch Sally, if we find that this subject is not suitable, will changing subjects affect our overall assessment score?"
Sally said, "No, strictly speaking, this isn't changing subjects, but rather taking a secondary subject. As long as you have enough magic stones to cover the annual tuition, you can continue to take more subjects until you're satisfied."
"Not only you, but even teaching assistants like us are required to have majored in multiple subjects in order to be eligible for the position."
"Any other questions?"
After making sure no one else had any questions, Sally continued, "Then there's the preparation for the lesson."
"The course will begin in three days."
"But you need to prepare some things before that."
"Danville and Chris, you need to go and buy the 'Fish Herb'."
"Jasmine, you need to buy black-tailed crane feathers."
"There's a wizard market in the Tower of Dawn. Go there to buy your things. I'll recommend a shop I frequent."
Sally stretched out her hand, and three black magic stones appeared in her palm.
"Here are three magic stones. Each of you can take one, and the cost will be deducted from your scholarships. If you need any materials for your studies later, you can come here to get magic stones, and the cost will also be deducted from your scholarships."
Leo and the others each took a magic stone and carefully stored it away.
Jasmine, in particular, who was timid, wrapped the magic stone in layers of clothing, fearing that it might fall.
"Alright, you can go back now."
Chris and Jasmine left one after the other, but Leo did not move an inch.
Sally looked up and said, "Danville, is there anything else?"
"Yes, Lady Sally," Leo said. "I have a question for you regarding the Hand of Magic."
