Chapter 289: Conclusion [1]
Chapter 289: Conclusion [1]
After discussing the main issue, Veronica informed Leon that she had already made the treaty and that it had been signed by Lady Aisha and Lord Abacus.Under their authority, Evana City had officially fallen under the joint regime of the Blood Tower, the Frost Tower, and the Moon Tower.
And the treaty’s most crucial clause was already in place.
"No Calamity, regardless of bloodline ties, latent influences, dormant heritages, ancestral claims, or indirect channels through mortals, spirits, or constructs, may inflict harm upon Evana City or any individual within its borders. This restraint shall extend to all forms of manipulation, possession, suggestion, blood resonance, soul-binding, and any method, whether direct or indirect, by which a Calamity might bypass the standard interpretation of the Oath of Balance. Any attempt to do so shall be treated as an open declaration of war against the three signing Towers."
Hearing this, Irene, who had been silently listening the whole time, slumped back into her chair.
"...W-We won." She muttered.
She turned slowly to Leon.
"Leon. You did it."
The treaty had already been signed before any of them had even stepped foot in Evana.
Which meant, by the time the rest of the Calamities took note of it, Dreamweaver would have no choice but to officially lift his curse from the city.
The moment the loop ended, and the moment the city teleported back to its original geographical coordinates.
It would all be over.
The political deadlock was set in stone, and Dreamweaver was already trapped inside it.
"Hey." Veronica suddenly spoke. "I am not done talking. And.... you two... can you focus onto me for once."
Irene flinched.
Leon watched as she robotically straightened in her chair and turned back to Veronica.
"Y-Yes, Lady Veronica."
Leon blinked.
Even he was a little surprised at how quickly Irene nodded to her.
’Wait.... Is she scared of Veronica?’
He glanced between the two of them.
Veronica was leaning casually against her desk.
Irene was sitting upright, with both her hands folded neatly in her lap.
She was suddenly behaving like a freshly enrolled student in front of a headmistress.
Leon’s lips slowly curled into a small grin.
He had told Irene that he would take revenge for all the teasing she had done.
’Hmm... would it be too much though?’
But he wouldn’t be getting an opportunity this good again.
But before he opened his mouth, Rumi scolded him.
’Haru, you better not say a word if you don’t want to make her angry.’
’Huh? What?’
Leon was going to tease Irene in front of Veronica.
’I won’t explain, but just know that she would not like it.’
’Ah, alright.’
Leon soon agreed, guessing Irene would not like others seeing her flustered.
’Haaah....’
Rumi heaved a disappointed sigh.
’...Hey, what was that for?’
’Nothing. Actually, if you want to do it, do it alone, and warn me before so that I can leave your body. I don’t want to feel second-hand embarrassment.’
Leon’s eyes twitched.
’You know, Rumi, you have been talking a lot after all that happened.’
"Hmph! I call it 20 years of growth."
’....’
Whatever.
"Leon."
Veronica called his name, and when he looked up at her, he saw her strangely looking at him with intense curiosity mixed with anger.
"...Yes, sister?"
She leaned away from the table.
"Do you have any idea of the trouble you have caused all of us?"
Leon scratched his cheek.
By trouble, if she meant sneaking out of Liora illegally when the king had his eyes set on him, or getting into Evana, which was considered a myth, freezing a literal Calamity, which had probably caused an imbalance in the Upper Realm and would have made the other four calamities work over time... or getting all his friends and an entire city wiped out, then turning back time...
Then no, they were not trouble at all.
’Well, some of them were not.’
"Sigh..."
A sigh left Veronica’s lips.
"Well the good thing is, we have it under control now, and the biggest trouble is now gone."
Leon nodded to his sister.
"Do you have any other questions sister?"
He dared to ask her, which made Veronica look as if she would give Leon a solid knock in the head if she were to be with him.
But he controlled it...
For now.
"I have dozens of questions stored for you, I will be meeting you very soon, till then you better save your head."
Zing–!
With that the connection was gone.
The holographic environment vanished, and they returned back to Irene’s room.
"She looked pissed at you," Irene had noticed it too, "are you doing it deliberately though? Because to me it looks that way."
"Nah, she just adores her little brother."
This statement made Irene even more tense.
What if she sees Irene as a threat to Leon? What if she doesn’t like her being near Leon?
Leon noted Irene’s expression at that moment.
"What are you making that face for?"
"Nothing really, let’s just get this over with," Irene took the Time Device and slowly stood up, "you wake up Ethan and Cyan, I will send a text to Doctor Anise, to make a city-wide announcement."
As she turned around, gripping the Time Device, she paused for a bit.
"Leon."
"Hm?"
She spoke without turning around.
"Don’t get the wrong idea. It’s not like I’m scared of your sister or anything."
Leon raised an eyebrow.
"Sure."
"I am serious here."
Irene clicked her tongue.
"I am not scared of her. I am just..." She struggled to find the words. "Nervous."
"Nervous?"
This time Leon looked back at her.
A faint blush had already crept onto her face.
"When it comes to me... and you."
Irene immediately regretted saying that.
"I mean... You know what I mean."
"No, not really."
She glared at him.
Then her shoulders slowly dropped.
"...Your sister is important to you, and she clearly cares about you. So...I just don’t want her to dislike me."
The moment those words left her mouth, Irene looked like she wanted to disappear from existence.
"I know how ridiculous that sounds., and it must look embarrassing from your perspective. But I was trying my best, alright? You have no idea how stressful that conversation was."
"Anyways, what I am saying is... uh... just wake Ethan and Cyan."
With that, she quickly turned around and walked out of the room before she embarrassed herself any further.
The door closed behind her.
Leon sat on the edge of the desk.
’Rumi, you actually saved me.’
’Told you.’
A smug tone entered her voice.
’Now treat me when we get back.’
"Sure, sure..."
Leon stood up as well.
. . .
After waking Ethan and Cyan, Leon used Command of Grace to implant a portion of their conversation with Veronica into their memories, removing some of the more delicate high-stakes matters.
From their perspective, it would look as though they had actually spoken with Veronica themselves.
"It was my first time seeing the Tower Lord. She looked so beautiful."
Cyan shared his thoughts.
Ethan and Leon had been discussing the matter at hand.
"I understand the situation, but how would lifting the loop from Evana actually save it? As per your sister, isn’t the whole city under Dreamweaver’s spell?"
Leon nodded.
"True, and we are actually going to use that to our advantage."
The Oath of Balance states that none of the Calamity Heads would inflict harm upon the people or property belonging to the other Calamities.
The whole loop existed to prevent Evana from dying to Dreamweaver’s spell, which he had cast upon the city and his own family.
He hadn’t broken any oath by doing so because he wasn’t harming anything that belonged to the other Calamities.
But now that the treaty had been signed by not one, but three Tower Heads, the entire jurisdiction of Evana had come under the domain of those three Calamities.
Meaning, Dreamweaver would be forced to remove his spell after the loop protecting Evana was lifted.
And if he didn’t, then his spell would directly harm the people of Evana, which would violate the treaty they had just signed.
It would also make Dreamweaver an enemy of three other Calamities, which was the last thing he wanted.
Leon had successfully cornered him before he had even realized a treaty was being prepared.
Leon could now sit calmly inside Irene’s house and watch it all happen without doing anything himself.
It was flawless to the core, once the Leon of the previous timeline had devised this strategy.
Dreamweaver would never see what was coming.
He had messed with the one person he shouldn’t have.
Calamity or not, they were all characters he had created.
And only he knew how his own creations thought.
"Alright, it’s done. I guided her to the code I planted in her device. She should receive her memories by now."
Irene came in from outside, holding a communication device in her other hand.
She must have texted Anise.
She sat beside Leon on the cushion opposite Ethan and Cyan. They had intentionally left an empty cushion on their left.
A soft chime echoed throughout the city, and soon enough, Anise’s familiar voice followed.
["Attention, citizens of Evana. Please remain calm and listen carefully."]
["As of this moment, the City Council has reached a historic agreement with several external powers. The negotiations have concluded successfully, and all required conditions have been met."]
["There is no immediate danger to any resident."]
["However, within the coming hours, you may experience unusual environmental phenomena. These may include temporary spatial fluctuations, changes in atmospheric conditions, and brief sensations of disorientation."]
["There is no cause for alarm."]
["As the Queen, I asked all citizens to remain within designated public zones, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow any instructions issued by city officials."]
A brief pause followed.
["Many generations have lived beneath Evana’s sky, and many generations have walked Evana’s streets."]
["This city was built upon the belief that Evana would one day have a better tomorrow. And on behalf of everyone’s trust, I am pleased to inform you that tomorrow is finally here."]
["Welcome to Evana’s new beginning."]
A grin appeared on Leon’s face.
SHAAAAAA–!!
Everything around them started shaking violently.
The books on the shelf tumbled to the floor, and every glass ornament inside Irene’s house shattered.
The four remained seated, their eyes fixed on the empty cushion to their left.
As the vibrations continued, a ripple appeared in space itself, right in the middle of Irene’s room.
Black metallic feathers darted through the air before a figure stepped out from nowhere.
Long brown hair and Green eyes.
Though centuries old, he still looked to be in his early twenties.
A proper aristocratic suit draped over his frame, metallic wings spread behind him, and a cane rested casually in one hand.
The atmosphere inside the room changed and the temperature dropped.
A chilling pressure ran down Cyan and Ethan’s spines.
Leon simply smiled at him and gestured toward the empty cushion.
"Have a seat, Dreamweaver. Or would you prefer I call you by your real name... Professor Victor Hiengberg?"
Dreamweaver grinned at the cocky boy.
A sneer followed, then without a word, he walked forward and sat down on the empty cushion, crossing his legs.
