Chapter 629 - 628: The Traps Are Useless
Chapter 629 - 628: The Traps Are Useless
The entire situation was absolute chaos. In Impel Down, Ace had been moved to Marineford. Sabo and Luffy were preparing to leave and intervene in the upcoming Great War, but Garp had arrived to stop them. Meanwhile, the Blackbeard Pirates were approaching.
At Marineford, the Navy was fully prepared. 100,000 soldiers were gathered in the plaza, including the three Admirals and five Warlords.
High in the sky, the Immortal Pirates and the Government’s grand army were itching for a fight. In the shadows, the other two Yonko, Big Mom and Kaido, were wild cards.
Chaos. That was the only word to describe the current state of affairs.
At Marineford, with the appearance of the Warlords and the three Admirals, Marine morale soared. Soldiers brandished their weapons, vowing to fight the Whitebeard Pirates to the death. Most were entirely unaware of the war about to occur ten thousand meters above them.
Clang...
With the sound of chains dragging on the ground, and under the watchful gaze of the entire world, Ace walked step by step onto the execution platform, his body hunched.
Sengoku stood at the top of the platform, watching the approaching figure. It felt as if he had been transported back twenty-two years. It’s finally proceeding smoothly. As for Impel Down... Garp should be able to handle it.
Once Ace reached the platform, Sengoku straightened his back and prepared to deliver the declaration of war.
In Skypiea, many were also watching the live broadcast, but they soon switched off the screens.
"There’s no need to wait for Whitebeard to arrive. The Navy can’t send reinforcements now anyway."
On the edge of the artificial Weatheria Island, Captain Fallon of the Black Thorn Pirates under Alucard’s banner clicked off the Den Den Mushi. With a grimace, he raised a hand. "Men! Prepare to attack!"
"OH!!!"
The situation was the same for the Knight Orders in the center of Weatheria. The moment Ace appeared, all broadcast snails were shut down, signaling the start of the aerial war.
On the Island of God, the Immortal Pirates and the Government coalition were in a standoff. Looking into the distance, one could see the white-clad Government troops gathered in the forest.
"Alucard-sama," Aranea landed beside him. "Commander-in-Chief Kong arrived six hours ago but has hesitated to attack. He’s likely focused on deployments and traps. Should the Pacifista units and I scout ahead?"
Six hours of hesitation likely meant the Government base was surrounded by countless traps. For safety, it was better to have the flight-capable Aranea and the artificial Pacifistas go first.
"Why bother with such trouble?"
Alucard smiled faintly, suddenly shifting into his Count Vlad form. Even his tone changed, turning cold and commanding. "Everyone, get on the ships."
Those who heard him didn’t quite understand at first, but they immediately relayed the order. Men who had just disembarked rushed back onto the vessels.
"Alucard-sama?" Aranea watched him with confusion.
Alucard walked past the dozen or so ships as if taking a stroll, lightly touching the hulls of each.
"Pacifistas, board the ships as well."
Under Alucard’s order, Aranea commanded the dozens of Pacifistas behind her to board the Kuja Pirates’ ships.
"Alucard-sama, everyone is ready," Aranea said from the railing.
On the other side, the Government forces led by Kong had surrounded the shrine-base in concentric circles. A man in a white trench coat with red trim sat on the base wall, grinning cruelly. "The forest is filled with specialized traps made of Seastone. Once they enter, the Immortal Pirates’ ability users will be wiped out in the first wave. Then there are the hidden double-layered walls, a hundred meters high. Once they step inside, anyone who can’t fly is just a rat in a cage... Hahaha!"
He couldn’t help but laugh, convinced the Government’s traps were foolproof.
"Vice Commander Jarram, please do not underestimate the Immortal," Momousagi (Gion) spoke from below the wall. "Don’t forget how your Commander died."
Jarram, full name Rufus Jarram, was the Vice Commander of the Karathoka Banuyar Knight Order. His superior, Glauca Flurette, the Gather-Gather Fruit user, had been killed by Alucard in his "Loli A" form back at the Holy Land.
"Vice Admiral Momousagi, I think you’ve just been scared senseless. To think you’d treat pirates with such—"
"THE IMMORTAL PIRATES ARE MOVING!!"
Just as Jarram was about to retort, a scout’s scream blasted over the base intercom. Everyone froze, eyes straining forward.
A moment later, those eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets. Even Shirokitsune, known for her calm, couldn’t help but shout, "Kong! Flying warships?!"
A dozen large pirate ships, marked with the flags of the Immortal Pirates and their various subordinates, were flying through the air, charging directly toward the base.
The sight was identical to the Government’s newly developed Flying Warships. But those were still in the experimental phase and couldn’t be flown recklessly. This scene was far more soul-shaking.
Cold sweat dripped down Kong’s face as a memory from decades ago resurfaced. He murmured a few words. "The... the Golden Lion’s Grand Fleet..."
Momousagi smirked mockingly. "Well, well. Looks like the traps are useless now."
Jarram’s face turned black. Indeed, the traps were all ground-based. No one had expected the Immortal Pirates to come flying through the sky.
